We are delighted to announce that our Svet Ticha team has been invited by Henkel Slovakia to give a lecture on the topic of “Deaf Roma – lost between cultures.” We greatly appreciate this invitation, as it is clear evidence that the topics of diversity, inclusion, and understanding between communities are gaining more and more attention, even in large international companies.
At the meeting, we presented a reality that society does not normally see – the lives of deaf Roma, who often move between two cultures and languages, but do not fully belong to either of them. We talked about how Romani, sign language, and Slovak overlap, and what it means when a person encounters barriers not once, but twice – because of their ethnic and linguistic identity.
Our lecture was not just about facts. It also included real stories, personal testimonies, and authentic moments from the field, which showed that behind every “problem” there is a person with a desire to be understood, respected, and accepted.
Henkel employees showed extraordinary interest – the discussion after the lecture was lively, open, and full of questions. People were interested in how they themselves could contribute to better understanding in society, how to communicate with deaf colleagues, and how to promote greater inclusion in the workplace.
For us, this meeting was more than just a lecture—it was a meeting of two worlds that were able to listen to each other (even without words). We felt sincere interest, respect, and openness—values that are the foundation of any real change.
We are grateful to Henkel Slovakia for the invitation, trust, and willingness to open up topics that touch on social justice, equality, and human dignity.
We believe that such discussions help build a world where everyone has their place – regardless of origin, language, or ability to hear.
We would like to thank everyone who participated, asked questions, shared their thoughts, and inspired others.
